Prescot SC have now implemented the National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS) for it's improver sessions. This assists in ensuring that the swimmers gain all the necessary skills they require in a structured manner.

The NPTS promotes the learning and development of swimming
technique and skills. NPTS supports Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) principles, with clear progression between each stage of the plan. |

The ASA Learn to Swim Framework is the national syllabus produced by the ASA to assist and support the delivery of swimming lessons. It’s the best way to teach children to swim. |

Foundation The Swim a Song, Ducklings and Alpha Step stages are all part of the Foundation stage that help younger swimmers prepare for the Learn to Swim framework stages At Prescot SC we will not normally take swimmers until they are old enough and confident enough for Stage 1 |

Stage 1
basic movement skills, water confidence and safety awareness |

Stage 2
practicing floating, travel and rotation in the water |

Stage 3 working towards being able to swim 10m on their front and back and will be able to swim underwater to collect objects from the bottom of the pool. Rotation skills and water safety knowledge will also be developed. |

Stage 4 focussing on refining kicking techniques for all four strokes and develop a better understanding of buoyancy. |

Stage 5 focussing on swimming all four strokes to the ASA expected standards. Swimmers will also develop skills in sculling, treading water and complete rotation. |

Stage 6 developing effective swimming skills including co-ordinated breathing, water safety and an understanding of how to prepare for exercise. |

Stage 7 developing quality stroke technique whilst swimming up to 100m |
