Echo Cup Round 2, 27 September 2014

Prescot went in Round 2 of the Echo Cup needing a miracle to qualify for the Final - it didn't happen.

Nevertheless the team gathered a lot more points that in the previous round despite being in the same gala as 3 of the teams we lost to last time out plus Southport who normally win the whole thing.

There were individual wins from Emma Farrugia and Jess Berry  in the 50m Backstroke and Jess Deeley carried on her good form from the previous weekend with victory in the 50m Butterfly.

The Boys 11yo Freestyle Relay Team (Ryan Tarbuck, Ryan Clarke, Joe Burns and Stephen Cardwell) repeated their win from the previous round with Ryan C swimming the anchor leg in a PB with his goggles round his neck.

There were also 2nd place finishes from Katie Rawnsley, Jess Deeley & Emma Farrugia and the 11yo boys swam well again in the Medley relay to take 2nd place too. The girls 11yo Medley relay team (Emma, Charlotte Clark, Jess Deeley and Emily Fairhurst matched the boys with a 2nd place as well.

Also congratulations to Andrew Irvine for successfully competing in his first gala for Prescot - going under 30 seconds for a length for the first time.

Final positions: 1st:  Everton SA (273 points), 2nd: Southport (251), 3rd: Halton (242), 4th: Garston (221), 5th: Prescot (180), 6th: Formby (116), 7th Bridgefield (65)

Oh well - there is always next year!

There was no let off for Prescot's younger swimmers as they joined some of the older ones to compete at the Derrick Lodge Memorial gala. Elizabeth Hurst won the 13/14 year-old girl's' 50m Backstroke, Jake Simm also took the 15 & over male equivalent

Daniel Clark finished 1st in  the 13/14 boys 50m Freestyle in a huge PB and Cameron Dunk won the 15 & over 50m Freestyle.

Fin Hampson came 1st in the 13/14 year-old 50m Breaststroke with Dan Cheshire winning the same race for the 15 & overs.

The older ones were certainly showing Prescot's younger swimmers how to do it as they won both the 15 & over mixed Medley relay (Alice Harrison, Matthew Lamb, Emily Lowrie & Jake Simm) and the mixed Freestyle relay (Jess Hardman, Dan Cheshire, Amy Johnson and that man Matty Lamb again).

The second weekend saw Jess Deeley carry on where she left off the previous Saturday adding the 200m Backstroke, 200m Freestyle and 100m Individual Medley titles to the 4 she won the first weekend. This also meant that she carried off the 9-year old girl's BAGCat trophy as well. Well done Jess.

Emma Farrugia took the silver medal in the 11yo 50m Backstroke and Jess Berry did likewise in the 10yo 200m Individual Medley so many congratulations to them.

Finally Jess Deeley, Katie Rawnsley, Jess Berry, Charlotte Clark, Emily Fairhurst, Emma Farrugia, Ellena Daly and India Hurst  - a last minute replacement for the ill Beth Dowding who was cheering on valiantly from the side - took silver in the race of the meet - squeezing between Southport and Penguins who only finished 0.32 seconds apart themselves.

Echo Cup Round 1, 30 August 2014

It was tough going for the team at Knowsley on Saturday afternoon in the first round of the Echo Cup. We had several swimmers missing due to holidays and although other teams were in the same position our lack of numbers meant that some swimmers were called on quite a lot.

The only 1st places were from Katie Rawnsley with a fantastic swim in the 9yo Girls 25m Breaststroke and the Boys 11yo Freestyle Relay Team (Ryan Tarbuck, Ryan Clarke, Joe Burns and Stephen Cardwell).

The team also managed 5 2nd place finishes from Josh Clarke (2), Emma Farrugia, Jessica Berry and Jessica Deeley.

Also well done to Ella Wilde, Erin Rhead, Elizabeth Webster, James Maddox-Ogden, Adam Caldwell and Jessica Berry on their first competitive swims for Prescot - overall we had no DQs and 48 PBs.

Final positions: 1st:  Everton SA (249 points), 2nd: Liverpool Penguin (221), 3rd: Garston (211), 4th: Halton (192), 5th: Crosby (188), 6th: Bebington (153), 7th Prescot (149)

We are not quite out of the final yet - but we need some more good swims and a bit more of a favourable draw to get there.

Prescot's top swimmers will be competing in the 2014 National Swimming Championships in Sheffield this July and August.

The Relay Team of Neil Wylie, Finley Hampson, Daniel Clark and Cameron Dunk are set to race against the UK's elite relays teams. Our super relay boys have managed to qualify for the 4x100m Freestyle Relay, 4x200m Freestyle Relay and the 4x100m Medley Relay.
