British Gas International Swimming Meet, June 2014

Two Prescot Swimmers, James Pout and Alex Dunk, raced to finals at the British Gas International Swimming Meet.

Both Prescot swimmers raced hard and performed outstandingly well against the country's elite swimmers, the very best of whom are Olympic champions with some competing in the 2014 Commonwealth games.

James, racing in the S8 disability category, competed in the 100m Backstroke and 100m Fly. Finishing 11th in the Backstroke, James went on the race to the finals in the 100m Fly. James then performed at the highest level finishing an outstanding 4th place in the Final. An inspiring performance from James who wore his Prescot colours with pride.

Alex competed in the 200m and 400m Freestyle events and then the 400m IM. Alex raced to 14th place in the 200m and 11th in the 400m freestyle, with times just outside his personal bests. Alex then qualified for the final in the 400m IM, finishing an impressive 6th place against the country's top swimmers. The boys captain of Prescot SC raced with the Prescot colours worn prominently.

Prescot would like to congratulate both our boys for achieving the very high qualifying standards and then racing to such high places throughout the week. They demonstrated the high standards achieved at Prescot Swimming Club and Squad by all our members from the very young still learning all the way through the junior teams up to the senior and mature swimmers.

Everton SA Faye Lafferty Memorial, 28 June 2014

Prescot SC finished in 3rd place at the annual Faye Lafferty Memorial gala hosted by Everton SA. The gala is designed as a development gala encouraging swimmers who maybe have not raced in many galas before and is held in memory of a young Everton swimmer.

Many of our swimmers swam Personal Best times (there were 50 of them) and all performed very commendably.

Also well done to Elliot Cunningham, Nathan Tinney and Adam Bond who swam brilliantly in their first gala for Prescot.

Highlight of the day:  8-year old Tia Hardman being chased down the pool on the anchor leg of the 10&under Freestyle relay by a bunch of 10-year olds but holding on valiantly for the win.  (Well done Emily, Charlotte and Jess for giving Tia the lead)

Overall Result: 1st Halton (293 points),  2nd Crosby (198),  3rd Prescot (196), 4th Everton SA (169), 5th Liverpool Penguin (128), 6th Bootle & North Liverpool  (114)

Cameron Dunk raced in the 200 Free and 400 Free, but was unable to perform as well as the first weekend in the relays. It turns out he has tonsillitis and an ear infection, so we wish him well in his recovery.

Thanks to Helen Billington for being the Poolside Coach for the whole of the weekends, guiding and encouraging our swimmers before their swims and giving great feedback after their races. Thanks also to Shaun Dodson and Kevin Dunk who helped on poolside, providing additional feedback and encouragement. Final thanks must also go to family members who attended a long, hot weekends in Manchester. Their support was much appreciated and surely helped the swimmers on their way.

The 1500m Freestyle beckoned for Alex on Monday morning and the Prescot star was in fine form getting very close to his PB for the event finishing his heat in 6th place in 15:47.48. This put him in 12th place overall for the event.

Overall, a fine championships for Alex in his first year in the senior ranks, several PBs and a heat win. He also showed he was prepared to mix it with GB's established stars.

One more well done for Alex - younger swimmers please take note - Alex wore his Prescot hat throughout the championships!

Alex at British Championships, 11 Apr 2014

Friday morning and Prescot's Alex Dunk was swimming the 200m Freestyle at the British Championships in Glasgow.

Alex turned up the ante and easily won his heat in a massive PB of 1:50.79. This year there are no semi-finals in the 200m and a fast heat 5 saw several swimmers just pip his time and and Alex again just missed the final by 0.67 seconds!

Just over half an hours rest and Alex was back in action in the 400m Individual Medley where he again did a massive PB finishing 2nd in his heat in 4:32:09.

Alex now gets the weekend off but is back in the pool at 9am on Monday morning for the 1500m Freestyle.

Prescot's own Alex Dunk did his first event at the British Gas Championships in Glasgow this morning.

Swimming in the final heat of the 400m Freestyle (the last 2 heats are seeded) Alex narrowly missed a place in the final, finishing 12th in 3:56.16.

He did however give the Prescot fans something to shout about - leading the heat at the 100m mark and being 2nd at the 250m point.

Well done Alex and good luck for the rest of the week - his next swim is the 200m Freestyle on Friday morning.

Janet Coy Memorial Swim,  4 April 2014

Many of Prescot's swimmers took part in the Janet Coy Memorial Swim.

Organised by Chloe Middleham and Courtney Dodson, the aim was, as a squad to swim 90 miles in special t-shirts to raise money for the Perth Centre / Cancer Research charity.

We are not sure how much was raised yet but many thanks go to all concerned with organisation, lap counting, donating money and of course swimming.
