Last Tuesday saw the presentation of the Knowsley Community Activity Awards in the Huyton Suite. Prescot Swimming Club were nominated in the Sports Achievement award and despite stiff competition from other Knowsley clubs came away with the award. This is a club award and rewards the efforts of the swimmers along with the commitment of all the club and squad coaching staff and helpers who make the club the success that it is

We can all be proud of the award and hopefully this will be one of many the club will see over the next year

Derrick Lodge Memorial, 21 Sep 2013

Just a short message to congratulate all the swimmers who took part in the Derrick Lodge gala last Sunday. They all swam brilliantly with some notable results for our younger swimmers.

At the end of a tight fought gala Prescot came a close second to Halton just 3 points behind and beat some notable clubs including Crosby, Garston, Bootle, Penguin and Bridgefield. It’s a testament to how well everyone is training and all the coaches would like to extend our thanks to all the swimmers for their effort and behaviour during the gala

A great day out at Blackpool!
North West Open Masters Championships, 6th July 2013

Mark Jones had the weekend in Blackpool, but unlike the majority of the visitors he was not there for the Fish & Chips, the Tower or the Illuminations, Instead he was swimming in the North West Masters.

Swimming in the 50-54 years age group he set a new record of 4:43.65 in the 400m Freestyle. This time was only 0.85 seconds off the time he did at the ASA National Short Course Masters October 2012.

He won the 200m Butterfly in 2:44.80, his best short course time since October 2011, came 2nd in the 200m Backstroke in  2:43.91 his best short course time since April 1995 (18 years ago!) and 2nd in the 200m Breaststroke in 2:58.22 - again his best short course time since October 2009.

In the 200m Freestyle he took the gold medal in a time of 2:16.96, a new record beating by 3 seconds the record that has stood since 1997 and came second in the 200m IM  in 2:40.12 - his best short course time since October 2011

He said that he did not expect to swim so well but was delighted with the times he did. (Perhaps it was getting back into a 25m pool after his last outing at Plymouth).

Many congratulations to Mark
