Prescot Open Swimming Squad, 19 February 2013

In the past Prescot SC has been closely linked to St Helens Swim Training Scheme and many of our elite athletes have trained there over the last 20+ years under some well-respected coaches. Currently Prescot has about  35 swimmers taking part in the scheme and have achieved some success with the extra pool time and coaching the squad allows.

Over the past 2 months squad has been put under severe pressure over the quantity of pool time it receives and the times that it trains. Because of the close links between squad and Prescot we have been working hard to secure the correct amount of pool space and time required to continue squad as the top class training scheme it already is. As part of this work it became apparent that squad would struggle to continue without some much needed financial and management support it required, so it was decided by the Prescot SC management committee in agreement with the coaches that the current squad would come under the management and financial control of Prescot SC. As a consequence of this change in management the squad has been renamed ‘Prescot Open Swimming Squad’.

As a result of the negotiations we have secured extra pool time for squad in Knowsley Leisure & Culture Park as well as Parr Swimming & Fitness Centre in St Helens so the short term future of the squad as well as the financial stability has been assured. The good news for Prescot SC is that the starter squad (C) will now swim in KLCP on Monday, Wednesday and Friday before the clubs normal sessions.

The squad is open to swimmers from all clubs but to qualify they need to be recommended by their club coach. Any Prescot SC swimmers in lane 3 or above who have the drive to want to become a competitive swimmer automatically have that recommendation.

If you would like more information about Prescot Open Swimming Squad then please either e-mail info@prescotopenswimmingsquad.org or  talk to your child’s coach either before or after a club session. Alternatively visit the squad website at www.poss.org.uk or www.prescotopenswimmingsquad.org (you can also click  the "Squad" button on the Prescot SC website).

The new squad and it’s timetable come into force on Monday 25th February
