British Swimming Heroes Tour, Liverpool Aquatic Centre, 18 August 2012

Unfortunately we found out about this event very late (and only then thanks to Kevin who passed on the email whilst on holiday) however we did get the word out to some of you and those Prescot swimmers who went had a whale of a time.

Led by Athens 200m Butterfly bronze medallist  winner and Liverpudlian, Steve Parry, a  host of Olympic swimmers, water polo players, divers and synchronised swimmers descended on the Aquatic Centre with nearly 200 8-12 year olds.

After giving some quick demos the kids were divided up into 5 groups and got tips  from the experts in swimming, life saving, diving, synchro and water polo.

The 3 hour event (one was run in the morning and one in the afternoon) was rounded off by the kids swimming against the Olympians.

As well as Steve Parry, London 2012 silver medallist Michael Jamieson was on hand to provide tips on breast stroke as well as Liverpool's own Michael Rock, Manchester's Jess Lloyd  and 200m Freestyler Ross Davenport.

Monique Gladding and Nick Robinson Baker represented the divers.  They were asked by the kids what it was like to dive with Tom Daley!

Several  Water Polo  players including goalkeeper Rosie Morris marshalled the kids for some games of Mini-Polo.

A couple of Paralympians also took time off from training for the forthcoming London 2012 Paralympics to attend including Kate Grey from the University of Bath.

After their swims against the Olympians each group had their photo taken with the more famous ones and Josh got to wear Michael Jamieson's silver medal round his neck.

The British Swimming Heroes Tour has not yet finished, however you would now have to go to Glasgow (22 Aug), Swansea (13 Sep) or Coventry (17 Sep) to join in.
