Once again Prescot took a young, inexperienced team to this
event as it is designed as a development gala.
Again the team performed very well taking 3rd place behind Penguins and Halton. |
The Faye Lafferty gala is a development gala so swimmers who
have not swum competitively before get a chance to swim in a competitive
environment and those who are more experienced are asked to swim events that
they do not normally swim for the club.
We ran eventual winners Everton very close, finishing in 2nd place not very far behind. According to Everton's web site the gala raised £873.02 with all proceeds donated to the Anthony Nolan Trust so congratulations to them. |

Our own Alex Dunk was selected to carry the Olympic Torch on
it's trip through Huyton on the 1st June 2012. A very proud moment for both Alex and Prescot Swimming Club. Alex will be taking part in the European Youth Championships in Antwerp, Belgium In July. We wish Alex the best of luck. |
A DRAGON’S Den-style event was one of the imaginative ways a goldenheart team has made a big impact on the community. Following a year of cash-spinning events local charities and good causes collected cheques for £500 at a presentation ceremony.
It is the second year running cash raised by the Rotary Club of Rainhill through their annual beer festival, Christmas street collection and other events, including the Dragon’s Den-style initiative, have been handed out to local organisations. The event involved submissions from worthy causes seeking financial backing of up to £500.
Paul Worrall, chairman of the organising committee, said: “The first Dragon’s Den event last year confirmed our belief there are many needy causes in the local community of which Rotary is not aware, and organisations and individuals who are equally unaware the club might be able to offer them financial support.”
More than 30 applications for funding were submitted by a range of organisations and individuals. Selected bidders were invited to make a presentation, and the club granted 10 £500 donations, with another six being given between £200 and £400.
Cheques were presented by club president Mike Gaffney at Rainhill Recreation Club, when a total of £6,550 was presented to groups including St Helens Stroke Club, St Helens Girls Rugby Club, Perth Community Centre in Thatto Heath and Prescot Swimming Club.
In the past year the club’s community service committee has offered financial help totalling £14,820 to 27 local charities. Mike said: “All the money raised by the club is ploughed back into supporting mainly local charities, groups and individuals. “The Dragon’s Den initiative has broadened the range of assistance we are able to offer, and has created an opportunity for the club to make an even greater contribution to the local community.”
