Prescot swimmers promoted after four in a row

(St Helens Star, 30th June 2011)

PRESCOT Swimming Club completed their fourth victory in a row in Division 2 of the Merseyside and District Swimming League.

This victory confirmed Prescot’s dominance of the league all season and also their well-deserved promotion to Division 1.

The gala was a close fought affair with the lead changing hand several times during the competition between Bootle and North Liverpool, Bebbington and Prescot with Wallasey and Birkenhead competing strongly.

Coming into the final round of events Prescot trailed Bootle by 2pts but with Prescot’s superior strength in depth they took six first places and six second places from the remaining 12 events to overpower some spirited opposition and take the gala by 211pts to Bebbington’s 201 and Bootle’s 192.

The promotion to Division 1 caps off a great season where Prescot also achieved promotion to Division 1 of the National Swimming League North West. Earlier in the Day Prescot had sent a Junior Team to compete in the McMillan Cancer Relief gala at Everton Park in Liverpool.

The team which comprised swimmers from ages 6 to 12 acquitted themselves very well with some great promise showed by the younger athletes.
